Attractive smugglers/pub restaurant by the beach, worthy of being called "olde worlde". Some say it dates from 1593, and others say 1686, but more likely it is 19h century. At one time renamed Old Sailors, but has now reverted to its original 19th century name, Sailor's Safety. One romantic explanation of the name is that a light used to be kept burning as a guide to ships or to warn smugglers that the revenue men were around. From the garden there are views across Fishguard Bay to the ferry port. A convenient stop for refreshment between Newport and Fishguard when walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal path. Local seafood is often on the menu. It was visited by Dylan Thomas at least once. Please note that the website accessed by the address given here is only a skeleton. Opening times given here current at September 2025. Please note that for the winter, the pub may close on Monday & Tuesday, so best to check before going.
