The Llwyngwair Manor Beer Festival
Local beer & cider festival is a family affair
A brand-new festival of Welsh beers and ciders is set to open its doors at the beginning of September. Held in the grounds of the splendid Llwyngwair Manor, 1 mile from Newport, the festival promises to make a great day out for the whole family. For all beer and cider-lovers, there will be a fine selection of Welsh brews, including award-winning beers including ‘Cwtch’ from Tiny Rebel which recently won Gold in it’s class at the CAMRA National Beer Festival in London and ‘Dark Heart’ from nearby Mantle Brewery which won Speciality Beer at the SIBA awards. Local microbrewery Bluestone, located at nearby Cilgwyn, will be represented with “Summer Rocks”. There will also be local ciders to sample and a barbecue to provide solid as well as liquid sustenance. Llwyngwair Manor is being assisted in holding their first-ever beer & cider festival by the Pembrokeshire branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).
Younger family members can look forward to being entranced by magician and children’s entertainer David Hitchcott. And to ensure the day goes swingingly, the organizers have provided musical accompaniment. Singer Laurence Lewis will entertain during the afternoon, while from 7pm The Collective will put everyone in foot-tapping mood.
Historic Llwyngwair Manor is set in 55 acres of parkland with magnificent views of the Preseli Mountains and the famous peak of Carn Ingli. A perfect location for taking a break from all the activities and enjoying a woodland walk along the picturesque River Nevern. If the Indian Summer should fail to materialize in September, the festival will be held indoors in the Function Room. So fun for all the family is guaranteed, whatever the weather.

Bluestone Beer & Music Festival
The 'Bont is Best'
On the May Day bank holiday weekend, a North Pembrokeshire pub will be marking a landmark achievement with a 3-day Beer and Cider Festival.
The Bridge End Inn at Llanychaer has just been awarded the title Pembrokeshire Pub of the Year 2017 by CAMRA. Members voted by online ballot and it was “The Bont” which received the most votes out of nearly 300 pubs in the county. Understandably, landlord Tom Healy felt that winning this distinction should be celebrated, and what better way than with a festival.
From Saturday 29 April to Monday 1 May (12 noon to 11pm each day), The Bont will be serving up a fine selection of Welsh and National ales and local ciders, with Pembrokeshire’s own breweries also featuring. There is sure to be something for every taste on offer, from light summer beers through to rich, dark sit-by-the-fire winter ales. Food will also be available all weekend.
Llanychaer is 2 miles from Fishguard. Fishguard Taxis, including a 6-seater, will be on hand (07442 496017) or for larger parties, a mini-bus is available (07506 268084). Off-street parking will be available for anyone arriving under their own steam. For those coming from further afield, the Bridge Farm campsite offers the ideal base right on the doorstep.
Of course, for a break from sampling fine beers and ciders, the location is perfect for enjoying scenic walks along the picturesque Gwaun River or, for the more adventurous, scaling the heights of the nearby Preseli Hills.
On Saturday 29 April at 2pm, Pembrokeshire CAMRA will officially present the Pub of the Year award to the deserving winner. A local CAMRA spokesperson said, “These days we are not just about beer and cider, but are actively campaigning to preserve our locals as valuable community assets and amenities”.
It is good news that a local North Pembrokeshire pub which at one time incorporated the local smithy and with a history stretching back to the 1800s has received recognition for providing an excellent service to locals and visitors alike.
